Discover more about this school of excellence that was established in 1924. You will hear great music and interviews broadcast live from Great Ballard School Eartham, nr Chichester. The was founded in 1924 by Ivor Poole, a choral scholar from King’s College Cambridge, and was based initially in New Milton Hampshire.
When it was established, there were 20 boys and it was the aim of Mr Poole to run a school that was different to the traditional perception of a boarding school. Opportunities were to be available to the boys in all areas of life from academia to music and from sport to travel, all being provided in a caring environment where everyone was treated fairly. Enable Me in Littlehampton started life as a community development project, with Government SRB funding that facilitated work in schools in, Bognor Littlehampton & Worthing delivered by a small team of volunteers. In 2007, when SRB ended, Enable Me introduced the charging of fees for it services in order to become sustainable and to reinvest the surplus back into the work of the organisation.
Significant mile stones have been achieved and passed since then, including the incorporation of the organisation as a Charitable Company Limited by Guarantee in 2009/10, the development of direct services for disabled children & young people in 2010 under the Aiming High for Disabled Children programme, and recognition as a key training provider of Disability Awareness Training in West Sussex, amongst many others.
