Aviv With “Sweet Soul”
Everyone knows that a good saxophone intro is the perfect cue for the lights to be turned down low. But in sweet soul, Nigerian-American singer-songwriter-producer, Aviv doesn’t fall for the common trap of overusing it. Before my worries could find any footing between my AirPods, I heard a beautiful guitar riff that heralded the proper start of the song.
In sweet soul, Aviv gets in his R&B crooner bag, describing a lover who is there for him through thick and thin. Aviv is not afraid to admit, off rip, “I don’t recognize myself.” The changuim down. Even more notably, we learn that his lover iTubs patient with things. In a world where there is so much pressure to get one’s act together, aviv counts himself as one of the lucky ones because, in his words, “(she) you show me we can grow slowly.”

Maybe it wouldn’t be too much of a leap to assume that the said “growth” wouldn’t be the only ~slow~ in the relationship. Judging from aviv’s sensual and earnest vocals over the warm instrumentation that his melodies are enraptured in, maybe a night of dancing between aviv and his lover would include some ~slow dutty wining~ Aviv’s lover who is, according to him, “divine by sight” is able to heal him. Sweet Soul is a slow jam for the lovers out there to dance to — and heal to.
