Geoff Carter from the flagship Breakfast Show has been listening to “You’re Not Country” by Outlaw Freedom — and this is a track that knows exactly what it wants to say.

It starts off with a nice, dirty country guitar riff… then that rough, lived-a-long-life vocal comes in. The guitar sound shifts slightly, sitting back and floating smoothly behind the vocal.

Straight away, you can tell — this is a story being told.

As the song unfolds, we begin to understand what real country means. Then the chorus hits and opens up… full of lines you’ll soon find yourself singing along to.

“But they’ve never watched the sun come up… after working through the night…”

There’s something in that — strong imagery, honest, and real.

Because what this song reminds us is… real country isn’t just a sound. It’s dirt under your nails. It’s lived experience.

Towards the end, the chorus builds with a nice foot-stomping backing, giving the track a lift and adding a bit of variation that keeps it moving right through to the finish.

It’s a song with grit, character, and a message at its heart — and that makes it stand out.
