📚 Dawn of the Lion by Paul Page
A gripping political conspiracy thriller featured on the UK Talk Radio Best Books Chart 2026.
If you are searching for your next political thriller, conspiracy novel, action-packed suspense book, or a gripping story about power, loyalty and hidden secrets, Dawn of the Lion by Paul Page is a book to add to your reading list.
This Kindle thriller follows investigative journalist Daniel Cheras as he begins looking into the suspicious deaths of Anaheim city councilmen. What starts as a corruption investigation soon becomes something far more dangerous, pulling Daniel into a world of Chinese military operatives, powerful billionaires, FBI investigations, corporate secrets and a conspiracy that reaches the highest levels of American power.
🔥 What Is Dawn of the Lion About?
Dawn of the Lion is a fast-moving thriller centred on Daniel Cheras, a veteran investigative journalist who uncovers a disturbing web of murder, political corruption and secret government experiments. Twenty-five years earlier, a hidden government facility carried out horrific experiments on children with extraordinary abilities. Now, the mysterious tech billionaire Calvin Mayer may have links to that dark past.
As Daniel digs deeper, his professional investigation becomes painfully personal. His son Jude walks away from medical school to work for Mayer, creating a painful distance from his family. His wife Megan faces a devastating diagnosis, and Daniel is drawn into a parallel FBI investigation led by his old Army friend, Agent Lou Edison.
From Washington D.C. to Southern California, from military black ops to corporate boardrooms, this is a thriller where secrets kill, loyalty is tested, and one man’s search for the truth could expose a conspiracy powerful people will do anything to protect.
🎙️ Geoff Carter’s Review
Every so often a thriller comes along that feels like it has been written for fans of big, ambitious storytelling. Dawn of the Lion by Paul Page is exactly that kind of book.
From the opening chapters, you are pulled into a world of political intrigue, secret government projects, powerful billionaires, covert military operations and a conspiracy that stretches across America. This is not just a thriller; it is a story about power, loyalty, family and the price people pay when they get too close to the truth.
At the centre of it all is investigative journalist Daniel Cheras, a character I found easy to root for. He is determined, flawed and courageous, pursuing a dangerous story even as his own family life begins to unravel. His wife Megan faces devastating personal challenges, while his son Jude takes a path that drives a painful wedge through the family.
The supporting cast is equally compelling. Agent Lou Edison brings determination and grit to the investigation, while the mysterious Calvin Mayer is one of those fascinating characters whose influence seems to reach into every corner of the story. The further you read, the more you realise that nobody is quite what they seem.
What impressed me most was how Paul Page balances action and suspense with genuine human drama. The characters are not simply moving pieces in a conspiracy thriller; they are people facing impossible choices and life-changing consequences.
If you are a fan of The Bourne Identity, The Firm, Brad Thor, Vince Flynn, or political thrillers where the stakes keep rising chapter after chapter, you will feel right at home here.
Even better, Dawn of the Lion is part of a larger series, meaning readers can continue following the characters and the wider story beyond this first instalment. That is great news because by the final pages, you will almost certainly want to know what happens next.
A gripping political thriller packed with intrigue, suspense, memorable characters and enough twists to keep thriller fans thoroughly entertained.

📚 Disciples of the Lion by Paul Page
Geoff Carter’s Review – UK Talk Radio Breakfast Show
After thoroughly enjoying Dawn of the Lion, I was keen to see where Paul Page would take the story next, and I am pleased to say that Disciples of the Lion does not disappoint.
In fact, this sequel raises the stakes on virtually every level. The conspiracy grows larger, the danger becomes more immediate, and the personal challenges facing the Cheras family become even more emotional and compelling.
🔥 A Sequel That Raises the Stakes
One of the strengths of this series is that Paul Page never forgets that behind the political intrigue, military operations, and international conspiracies are real people facing impossible situations. Daniel Cheras remains a fascinating central character. As an investigative journalist, he is determined to uncover the truth, but as a husband and father he is dealing with problems that no amount of reporting can solve.
The storyline involving Megan is particularly moving. As she battles terminal cancer, readers are taken on an emotional journey that adds genuine heart to the thriller elements. When Calvin Mayer suddenly provides what appears to be a miracle cure, the story takes on an entirely new dimension, raising questions that kept me turning the pages late into the evening.
👥 Powerful Characters and Growing Tension
The relationship between Daniel and his son Jude continues to be one of the most interesting aspects of the series. Jude’s growing loyalty to Mayer and EmoGen creates tension, uncertainty, and some genuinely gripping moments as the story unfolds.
Calvin Mayer himself becomes an even more intriguing figure in this book. In Dawn of the Lion, readers may think they have worked him out. In Disciples of the Lion, Paul Page cleverly challenges those assumptions. The deeper the story goes, the harder it becomes to determine who the real heroes and villains actually are.
I also enjoyed the return of Lou Edison, whose military background and friendship with Daniel add both action and credibility to the investigation. Together they find themselves chasing a conspiracy that feels frighteningly plausible in today’s world of technology, misinformation, political division, and hidden agendas.
🎬 A Cinematic Political Thriller
What impressed me most was the scale of the story. From Los Angeles riots and international intrigue to advanced technology and shadowy operatives working behind the scenes, this book feels cinematic throughout. Yet despite its large scope, the emotional story of the Cheras family remains at its heart.
If you enjoy authors such as Tom Clancy, Brad Thor, Jack Carr, Vince Flynn, or political thrillers that combine action with intelligent storytelling, Disciples of the Lion is a book you will want to add to your reading list.
Paul Page has successfully avoided the trap that many sequels fall into. Rather than simply repeating what worked in the first novel, he expands the world, deepens the characters, and leaves readers eager to discover what happens next.
🏆 Final Verdict
A thrilling, intelligent, and emotionally engaging sequel that builds brilliantly on the foundations laid in Dawn of the Lion. The Lion series continues to gather momentum and is rapidly becoming a must-read for fans of political and conspiracy thrillers.
