ABOUT FIRST BORN
First Born is a prominent Guyanese reggae group whose musical story stretches back to the 1990s.
Born in the Republic of Guyana and grounded in the roots reggae culture of Jamaica, the group developed a distinctive sound built around spirituality, culture, originality, positive lyrics and brotherly love.
First Born originally formed as an a cappella group made up of eight first-born Guyanese men. Over time the line-up evolved from eight members to five and later to the three-member line-up of Troy Azore, Trayon Garrett and Rolston Richmond.
FIRST BORN’S BREAKTHROUGH
A major moment in 1997
First Born achieved an important breakthrough after appearing at a Freddie McGregor concert at Guyana National Park.
Repatriation Time
That opportunity helped lead to the recording of their debut single, Repatriation Time, and the next stage of their recording career.
ALBUMS, TOURS & INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCES
First Born have recorded five albums during their career, including Wake Up Call and Iritis.
Their music has taken them internationally, including performances in England and other countries.
POSITIVE REGGAE WITH A MESSAGE
One of the characteristics that distinguishes First Born is their determination to create music that carries meaning.
Their songs regularly explore spirituality, culture, resilience, social awareness, truth and unity.
Rather than making reggae purely for entertainment, First Born use music as a way to communicate ideas while still creating an uplifting sound that people can enjoy.
