Who Owns Planet Earth?

Humans do… don’t we?

Not necessarily. It all depends on how far back into Earth’s extraordinary past you are prepared to go — and which version of the story you choose to believe.

So Who Does Own Earth?

Humans do, don’t we? Not necessarily.

Look at our own history and we are forever arguing about who owns which island, territory or piece of land. Quite often the answer depends on exactly where someone decides to begin the historical argument.

Go back a few hundred years and one answer appears. Go back a thousand years and another group may have an equally strong claim.

But what happens if we take that same argument and push it back millions of years?

Perhaps the real question is not who owns Earth now — but who was here first.

The Reptilian Claim

One extraordinary strand of alternative extraterrestrial mythology claims that a race of alien beings commonly described as Reptilians came to Earth in the immensely distant past.

According to the story, these visitors conducted a remarkably successful genetic experiment — the creation or modification of the giant dinosaurs.

For millions of years, enormous creatures dominated the planet.

But all good things eventually come to an end.

Danger From Space

The story suggests that these visitors eventually realised Earth was vulnerable to impacts from objects travelling through space.

Their solution was supposedly to construct enormous underground bases where they could shelter from catastrophe.

The Ownership Question

If an advanced race lived here millions of years before modern humanity, altered life on Earth and constructed permanent bases beneath the surface…

Would that give them a claim to Planet Earth?

Not Everything Died

Whatever happened at the end of the age of the giant dinosaurs, life itself certainly continued.

Many creatures living in the oceans survived, along with fish, cephalopods and numerous other forms of life.

Small mammals also survived.

Over tens of millions of years, mammals diversified and evolved until one particular branch eventually produced modern human beings.

Sixty million years is an almost unimaginable length of time. Could entire civilisations have appeared and disappeared during such an enormous period?

Were There Humans Before Us?

Some alternative traditions take the story even further.

They speculate that an earlier human or humanoid race could have developed on Earth long before our own civilisation appeared.

In different versions of the story, this civilisation either died out, left Earth for the stars or maintained secret settlements hidden beneath the planet’s surface.

Some accounts refer to mysterious underground inhabitants known as the Telosians.

If such a civilisation had existed here for thousands — perhaps millions — of years before us, another awkward question appears.

If they were here first, do they own Earth?

Giants, Gold and the Human Experiment

Another part of the alternative narrative claims that the Reptilian race was eventually driven from Earth by other extraterrestrial visitors.

A species of enormous winged beings is then said to have taken control, with one very particular objective:

Gold.

According to the story, extracting it proved extremely hard work.

Rather than doing all the labour themselves, these visitors allegedly decided to genetically alter a species of primate already living on Earth.

Its intelligence was increased, and the modified species was left to continue developing.

In this speculative chronology, the intervention occurred around 50,000 years ago.

An Engineered Species?

Could human intelligence have been influenced by an outside civilisation?

And If It Was?

If another civilisation deliberately altered our ancestors, would that give its members any claim over humanity?

Atlantis, Mu and the Teachers

The story does not end with humanity being left alone.

Around 15,000 years ago, these visitors are said to have returned.

They were clearly not in a hurry.

This time, however, they supposedly began teaching humanity and helping developing societies establish civilisation.

Legendary places including Atlantis and Mu are sometimes incorporated into these accounts as advanced centres or hidden bases from which knowledge was shared.

Were some of humanity’s legendary lost civilisations really meeting points between humans and visitors from elsewhere?

Earth’s Hidden Colonists

Meanwhile, the wider story suggests that many other extraterrestrial species were arriving on Earth and establishing small colonies of their own.

These alleged visitors are usually described as broadly humanoid, although their appearance and size vary enormously.

The Smallest

Some stories describe tiny humanoid creatures standing only around four inches — approximately 10 centimetres — tall.

The Giants

At the opposite extreme are accounts of beings reaching 15 feet — approximately 4.5 metres — or even more.

Then Humanity Built the Bomb

The arrival of the nuclear age is an especially important moment in modern UFO folklore.

Soon after humanity began developing and using nuclear weapons, two supposed extraterrestrial groups became particularly prominent in reports and stories:

The Small Greys

In UFO mythology, Small Greys are often portrayed as secretive, manipulative or malevolent.

Their alleged motives have become the subject of countless books, witness accounts, films and conspiracy theories.

The Nordics

Nordic beings, by contrast, are frequently portrayed in alternative literature as more benevolent and constructive.

They are often said to take an interest in humanity’s development and the dangers created by nuclear technology.

Are Aliens Hiding Inside Our Myths?

If these alleged colonies remained hidden from mainstream humanity, could occasional encounters still have found their way into our stories?

One intriguing idea proposes that supposedly supernatural creatures described throughout folklore might actually represent cultural memories of encounters with unidentified beings.

Visitors Disguised By Folklore?

  • Elves
  • Fairies
  • Dwarfs
  • Nymphs
  • Giants
  • Mysterious household entities
  • Even some alleged poltergeist phenomena

Perhaps, according to this interpretation, our ancestors were not inventing fantastic beings at all.

Perhaps they were simply describing something they did not understand using the language available to them.

So… Who Owns Planet Earth?

If we accept the conventional human view, the answer seems fairly straightforward. Humanity occupies the planet and divides its surface into countries, territories, properties and jurisdictions.

But if even a fraction of these extraordinary alternative stories were true, ownership would suddenly become much more complicated.

Who would have the strongest claim?

  • The species that evolved here naturally?
  • The first intelligent civilisation?
  • A race that genetically altered life on Earth?
  • Visitors who established colonies here?
  • Humanity because we currently dominate the surface?
It is surprisingly difficult to say just who owns Earth these days.

Something to Think About

Earth is approximately 4.5 billion years old.

Against that enormous timescale, the whole of recorded human civilisation occupies little more than the blink of an eye.

We naturally think of ourselves as the owners of the planet because we are the dominant technological species living openly on its surface today.

But ownership is a human concept.

The planet itself existed long before us — and will almost certainly continue long after the boundaries, nations and ownership disputes of our present civilisation have disappeared.

Perhaps Planet Earth has never really belonged to anybody.

Danny Copper Book Review

Earth’s Uninvited Aliens

Who, What, Where, When & Why

By Martin D Thomas • Illustrated by Alice Hunt

A provocative journey through Reptilians, ancient civilisations, hidden alien colonies and one very awkward question: who actually owns Planet Earth?

Danny Copper Reviews

There are books that ask you to accept their premise, and there are books that simply grab you by the collar and say, “Have you ever thought about this?”

Earth’s Uninvited Aliens: Who, What, Where, When & Why by Martin D Thomas, illustrated by Alice Hunt, is very much in the second camp.

The question at the heart of the book is wonderfully simple:

Who actually owns Planet Earth?

We humans would presumably put our hands up rather quickly. After all, we have divided the place into countries, drawn borders across it, built cities on it and spent a remarkable amount of time arguing about which bits belong to whom.

Thomas has other ideas.

Reptilians, Giants and Hidden Worlds

His starting point is that ownership depends rather heavily on how far back you decide to go.

From there, the book heads into territory populated by Reptilians, giant dinosaurs, ancient human races, underground bases, winged giants, genetically altered primates, Atlantis, Mu, Small Grays and Nordics.

And that’s before the elves and fairies turn up.

What I enjoyed about this book is the sheer scale of the story it wants us to consider.

Thomas isn’t thinking in centuries. He’s thinking in tens of thousands and millions of years.

The Reptilian Question

One of the book’s most intriguing ideas concerns an alien Reptilian race said to have come to Earth and genetically engineered the giant dinosaurs.

When catastrophe threatened the planet, they supposedly retreated into underground bases.

Here Before Us?

If they were here millions of years before humanity, then Thomas’s recurring question becomes very difficult to ignore.

The Big Question

If they were here before us, does that make Earth theirs?

Then Come the Telosians

The book also explores the idea of an alleged earlier human race known as the Telosians.

According to the material Thomas discusses, they may have disappeared, travelled to the stars or left secret bases behind on Earth.

If they came before modern humans, perhaps they have a claim too.

And this is one of the strengths of the book.

Every extraordinary idea leads directly to another question.

Who Owns Us?

Things become even stranger when winged giants enter the story.

They are said to have come here looking for gold, found extracting it rather tiresome, and genetically engineered primates to increase their intelligence.

Suddenly the question isn’t merely who owns the Earth.

It’s who owns us?

That is precisely the sort of leap that makes Earth’s Uninvited Aliens such an entertaining read.

You may agree with the theories, reject them completely or find yourself somewhere in between, but the questions keep coming.

A Welcome Sense of Humour

I particularly liked the humour running underneath all this.

When Thomas mentions visitors returning some 15,000 years ago after an earlier intervention, he observes that they were obviously not in a hurry.

That sort of line matters. A subject like this can easily become terribly heavy and self-important. Thomas instead gives the reader room to enjoy the extraordinary possibilities he is presenting.

Atlantis, Mu and Alien Colonists

Atlantis and Mu are brought into the picture as secret bases associated with attempts to help humanity develop civilisation.

We then meet other supposed alien colonists of extraordinary shapes and sizes, ranging from tiny humanoids to beings around fifteen feet tall.

The arrival of the nuclear age brings the Small Grays and Nordics into the story.

Small Grays

In the ideas explored in the book, the Small Grays are presented as malevolent and devious.

Nordics

The Nordics, by contrast, are presented as taking a more benign and constructive approach.

Aliens Hiding in Our Folklore?

Perhaps the most entertaining idea is that these supposed visitors may have been with us for so long that we’ve already put them into our folklore.

Could tales of elves, fairies, dwarfs and nymphs have originated with sightings of beings that our ancestors couldn’t explain?

Could some of the strange things we’ve labelled supernatural have another explanation entirely?

You don’t have to believe any of this to enjoy thinking about it.

Why You’ll Enjoy This Book

That, I think, is an important distinction with Earth’s Uninvited Aliens.

This is a book for readers who enjoy asking “what if?”

For the Curious

If you enjoy ancient mysteries, UFO traditions, alternative history and speculative ideas about humanity’s origins, there is plenty here to get you thinking.

For the Sceptical Too

Sceptics will undoubtedly find plenty to challenge, while those sitting somewhere in the middle can simply enjoy having their imaginations thoroughly exercised.

Danny Copper’s Verdict

Because underneath the Reptilians, giants, secret bases and alien colonists is actually a rather good question.

We behave as though Earth belongs to us.

But why?

Human civilisation represents an incredibly small portion of this planet’s history. We’re the current occupants, certainly, but does occupation equal ownership?

Martin D Thomas takes that familiar little assumption, turns it upside down and then has considerable fun seeing what falls out.

By the end, I was looking in a different direction as to who owns Planet Earth.

I was, however, rather less certain that humans should be so quick to claim it.

And perhaps that’s exactly the point.
