Somimey is a singer-songwriter of Nigerian descent born and raised in London, England. Her first debut single titled ‘Room Alone’ and its visualiser was officially released earlier this year, in January. Written during a period of personal struggle, she displays an uninhibited presentation of the realities and vulnerabilities encircling mental health. There is an intimate tone similar to a personal diary; its lyrics project a stream of consciousness with a transparent awareness of the complex emotions like guilt experienced whilst facing the intricacies of mental health.
Within her creative songwriting process, she takes inspiration from her own and other people’s life events. Likewise, finding inspiration from surrealism, fantasy, and spiritualism, whereby aspects of their elements will soon be heard in her subsequent released works. Her artistic sound mainly centres around R&B and soul. In correspondence, listeners can expect a fusion of sounds in her upcoming works, whether Funk, Pop, Psychedelic rock, Afroswing and many more genres.
